Kappa Sigma is focused upon the Four Pillars of Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship and Service. The Fraternity should always complement and enhance the educational mission of Denison University, should promote the ideal of Brotherhood, should actively contribute to the personal growth and development of its members, should promote ethical behavior and decision-making and should encourage service to others. But what if we had never joined Gamma-Xi Chapter at Kappa Sigma?

I look back at Denison as the best four years of my life. After Denison, I went to law school and then to a job—and my life as an adult began. I’m certain that if I hadn’t joined Kappa Sig, I wouldn’t have come out of my shell and I wouldn’t have made the friends that I have to this day.
I’m very fond of my days as a Kappa Sig, and I still think about the four wonderful years I had with my brothers. Thanks for giving me a chance to reminisce.

Dave horning was the house president when I was a Kappa Sigma. Having 30 or 40 guys to be your Brothers is a huge advantage when going to college. The teamwork, advice, friendship, common goals to succeed are just a small part of the fraternity experience. I was sickened when the frats were disbanded and only recently reinstated. Kappa Sigma is a world-wide order and committed to positive things in every field. We played a major role in local charity and town events for the good of the community. I am proud to be a member and all it stands for.

I would not have the several lifelong friends I made while living in the Lodge. I would never have had the nickname “Kono”. My wife may never have fallen in love with me while I lip-synced to “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” and I would not be able to “Slip the Grip” to every KZ-er I’ve met since.
My update: I’m a 40-year lawyer with the Varnum Law Firm in our Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Milwaukee, Novi and Detroit offices. I have a 42-year marriage to Jan, a daughter (Gillian), a son-in-law (Dylan) and a grandson (Oliver, 6 years old). I live in Michigan with a dog, a cat, a pontoon boat, a kayak and a paddleboard.
