Photo Flashback: First Unbeaten Hardwood Champs in a Decade

Thank you to Art Kleck ’53 for sending this great throwback photo of Kappa Sigma’s intramural fraternity basketball team. The team achieved great success in 1952 with their undefeated record, making them the first unbeaten hardwood champs in a decade. The “Denisonian” campus newspaper once wrote that the “Kappa Sig ‘A’ League” was even capable of giving Ohio varsity teams a good game. All five starters were chosen to play on the All-Star team and their coach, Pete, was named “Coach of the Year.” Do you remember these guys? Are you one of them? From All-Star Athlete to Book Author, Art Kleck ’53 Tells His Story

Art Kleck ’53 wound up at Denison by accident. In the early ’50s, his future was up in the air. A star athlete in high school, Art was sure he wanted to play professional baseball. But his high school coach and biggest mentor said he wouldn’t let him do that without trying college for one year. That’s how Art found himself at Denison University and writing a book about the sport he loves. Read on for Art’s story.
